What Is It like to Be a Phlebotomy

The owner of Cary Food Products, Ritzy Robert Montaner has several years of experience in the medical industry, first working as a medical secretary at Alfonso ALF and then as a phlebotomy technician for LabCorp Externship. Ritzy Robert Montaner received the phlebotomy technician certification in 2017 from the Kentucky School of Phlebotomy.

Phlebotomy is the process of drawing a patient’s blood by venipuncture or micro collection for diagnostic testing, experimental procedures, or transfusion. The phlebotomy technician, also called a phlebotomist, is responsible for all steps of this procedure, helping doctors diagnose illnesses and health conditions. They work in health-related locations such as hospitals, clinical laboratories, blood donation centers, and nursing homes.

Before phlebotomy, the technician typically conducts patient interviews, examines their medical history, and prepares required laboratory equipment. During the process, they may also need to monitor vital signs and check for the patient’s reaction to the blood draw. If the goal is diagnostic testing, the phlebotomist will often prepare blood specimens and ship them to laboratories after the procedure is finished. They are also responsible for appropriately disposing of used tools to prevent accidents.
